Prof. Zubair Hasan completed his education in India getting his M.A (Economics) M. Com and PhD degrees from Agra and Meerut universities. He joined the teaching profession in 1957 and having worked at a number of educational institutions in India - mainly the University of Delhi - and abroad, he joined the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 1990. There, he served as Head of the Department and helped to formulate and promote the PhD programme.
In May 2009, he was awarded the 1430H IDB Prize in Islamic Economics by the Islamic Research and Training Institute of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in recognition of his accomplishments and tireless efforts in the promotion of Islamic Economics as well as Islamic Banking and FinanceHe introduced several new courses, especially in the areas of Islamic Economics and Environmental Studies at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Three Theses and 17 research papers at the Master's level were written under his supervision, some of which were presented by the students at conferences or published in academic Journals. He is on the editorial board of a couple of reputed academic journals and works as a referee for others.
He has presented papers, organised sessions on Islamic Economics and served as discussant at scores of conferences, national and international. He has extensively published books, articles, chapters in books, comments and reviews in reputed academic journals worldwide. Some of these have been translated and published in languages other than English. His academic contributions can mostly be downloaded from LoGEc or 'Zubair Hasan at IDEAS'. On some of the download criteria, he is ranked among the top 5% authors of the world in economics.

Dr. Obiyathulla Ismath Bacha received his Doctoral degree in Finance from Boston University in 1993. He has an MBA (High Honors) and MA in Economics, also from Boston University. His undergraduate degree is from University Sains Malaysia.
Dr. Obiyathulla is currently Professor of Finance and Head of Finance and Accounting Department . Prior to this, he was Professor and Director of the Management Centre at the International Islamic University Malaysia. On completing his doctorate, he was appointed an Assistant Professor of Finance at Boston University where he received the Allen E. Beckwith Teaching Award. He taught finance courses at both the Masters and Doctoral levels. His research interests are in International Finance, Financial Derivatives and Islamic Finance.
He has published in numerous local and international journals and has won several research awards. His work on the Nikkei Stock Index Futures contracts won the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Competitive Research Award. His book on Financial Derivatives is currently used as course textbook at several Malaysian universities.
He was a vice-president of the Malaysian Economic Association and is the current Deputy President of the Malaysian Finance Association. He is an Adviser to Great Eastern Life Assurance Bhd. and a Member of Bursa Malaysia's Derivatives Market Consultative Panel.

Prof. Dr. Saiful Azhar Rosly is currently the Head of INCEIF's Banking Department. Prior to joining INCEIF, he was the Professor of Economics at IIUM and he has also served the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research as Director of Research. His area of specialisation is Islamic financial markets, which include Islamic banking, Takaful, unit trusts, capital market and financial planning. In addition to these, he is also an independent director for EONCAP Islamic Bank and the Federation of Malaysian Unit Trust Management (FMUTM).

A frequent speaker at Islamic finance seminars and conferences, Professor Dr. Zainal Azam Abdul Rahman joins INCEIF as a professor in Islamic law, heading the Shariah Department. Prior to joining INCEIF, he was the Director of the Al-Muamalah Center for Research in Islamic Business & Finance in Kuala Lumpur.
Dr. Azam obtained his Ph.D. in Islamic Studies (Islamic Law) from Selly Oaks Colleges, University of Birmingham, UK while being the visiting lecturer at the same college. His Master of Laws was from University of Warwick, UK and he was the first batch of the International Islamic University Malaysia to graduate with a law degree. He studied Arabic at the Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.

Prof. Murat Cizakca received his B.A degree in economics from the University of Leicester in England (1968) and M.A. and PhD degrees also in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in the U.S.A (1978). His main specialisation is economic history and he is known for his application of the principles of economic history to Islamic business and finance. He has taught at Bogazici, Koc, Fatih and Bahcesehir Universities in Istanbul and also most recently at the Ludwig Maximillian University in Munich, Germany. He is a former fellow of the Institute of Advanced Studies (Wissenschaftskolleg) in Berlin and is a member of the Executive Committee (Giunto) of the Istituto di Storia Economica, F. Datini, in Prato, Italy. He is the author of *A Comparative Evolution of Business Partnerships: Islamic World and Europe with Specific Reference to the Ottoman Archives *(Leiden: E. J. Brill, 1996), *A History of Philanthropical Foundations: Islamic World from the Seventh Century to the Present *(Istanbul: Bogazici University Press, 2000), *The Turkish Waqf Sector in Multiple Transition: From the Ottoman Empire and the Republic to The European Union* (Annuaire Droits et Religions, Presses Universitaires d'Aix-Marseille, 2008). Prof. Datuk Dr. Syed Othman Alhabshi joined INCEIF as Professor of Islamic Economics & Econometrics and Head of Takaful Faculty in March 2007. Since July 2008, he has been promoted to the position of Chief Academic Officer, INCEIF. He holds a B.Ec (Hons) in Statistics from University of Malaya, M.S. (Statistics) from University of Wisconsin, U.S.A. and Ph.D.in Econometrics from University of Birmingham, U.K. Since 1969, he has served in various academic capacities in four public universities in the country, namely University of Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia and Universiti Utara Malaysia. In October of 1997, he served as the Founding President and CEO of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak until March 2005, after serving Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) as the Deputy Director-General from 1992 to 1997. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Etiqa Takaful Berhad; Pak-Kuwait Takaful Pte Ltd Pakistan; Maybank Islamic Berhad; Asia Unit Trust Berhad, Prima Prai Sdn Bhd.; Epen Bina Sdn Bhd.; Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Sdn Bhd. He is also a member of the Council for Universiti Kuala Lumpur. He now sits on Shariah Advisory Committee for Labuan Reinsurance (L) Ltd.; MNRB Retakaful Berhad; MIDF Group of Companies; Amanah Mutual Berhad (formerly known as Maybank Unit Trust Berhad) and Singapore Unit Trusts Ltd. The former President & Chief Executive Officer of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia, Professor Dr. Syed Abdul Hamid AlJunid now heads the Islamic Financial Markets Department of INCEIF. A holder of a Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin (Madison), USA and Masters of Arts from State University of New York, USA, Dr. AlJunid is also a fellow member to the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA).
His areas of interest include ethics and governance, philosophy of social science and economics, theory of knowledge as well as value and value-based leadership. In whatever spare time he has, he dabbles in writing and presenting as well as editing intellectually on related issues. His writings and presentations include ethics and corporate governance, role of religion and spiritual capital in business and economic development as well as value and value transformation.

Dr. Hamzah obtained his BEcons from the University of Malaya, MBA from McMaster University, Canada, and DBA from Indiana University, USA. His last academic appointment was as Professor of Accounting at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He also served as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at Universiti Utara Malaysia. His teaching interests include Accounting and Finance, Corporate Restructuring, Entrepreneurial Development and Project Management. Dr. Hamzah sits on the board of private and public companies. He previously served on the board of Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd., Islamic Broking firm and an Islamic Asset Management company. He is currently on the board of several listed companies, as well as being actively involved in several NGO initiatives. Dr. Hamzah has completed consultancy assignments for state and federal governments, as well as for International organisations like the International Labour Organisation and Asian Development Bank.

Associate Prof Dr. Shahul Hameed graduated with a Diploma in Commerce (Financial Accounting) from Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur. A fellow member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK, he also holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of Dundee, Scotland, where he wrote a thesis on the need for Islamic Accounting., an MA in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lancaster, UK and a Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Revealed Knowledge from the International Islamic University Malaysia.
Flexibility and technical expertise have enabled him to diversify his local and global work experience. Dr. Shahul initially started out in public practice with Kassim Chan & Co.,CPA, moved on to lecture at UiTM and subsequently worked as a cost accountant at FIMA Metal Box before a stint in Papua New Guinea as an Accountant in the Metro Group. He returned to teaching and lectured in financial and computerised accounting at the Administrative College of Papua New Guinea for four years. Since returning to Malaysia in 1991, he has taught at the International Islamic University in Kuala Lumpur. He was the Head of the Department of Accounting, Kulliyah of Economics and Management Sciences at the University for four years from 2003 until May 2007, during which he organised the development and implementation of a new curriculum for the B.Accounting in line with IES requirements. He was an active member of the Halatuju II committee for Accounting programs of the Ministry of Higher Education and holds several curriculum advisory and examiner positions for various colleges in the country.
Dr Shahul has been a Council Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants since 2005 and has been working actively in its Qualifying Examinations and Investigations committees for a number of years. He has published several scholarly articles in local and international refereed journals, attended and presented numerous papers at International Conferences and has been invited as speaker in Indonesia, Philippines and London. Dr Shahul has acted as senior consultant fellow to the Accounting and Auditing Organizations for Islamic Financial Institutions in Bahrain in 2007 and has published his first book on "Accounting and Auditing for Islamic Financial Institutions" (IIUM Press) (in print 2008).

Prof. Dato' Dr. Kamaruddin Sharif is currently a Professor and the Head of the Department of Takaful and Wealth Planning at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF).
Prof. Kamaruddin received his bachelors degree from Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia in Actuarial Science and Demography. In 1978, he obtained his Master in Actuarial Science from Northeastern University, Boston, U.S.A. He received his doctorate in the area of Insurance and Risk Management from Ohio State University Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A.
Over the last thirty four years, Prof. Dr. Kamaruddin have spent about twenty four years as an academician at various institution of higher learning, mostly however at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. In September 1993, Dr. Kamaruddin was appointed as the first principal officer of MNI Takaful Sdn Bhd. In the first 8 years, he managed to build up the company's assets to more than a billion ringgit.
Prof. Dr. Kamaruddin had been involved in many research and consulting projects mostly in the area of insurance, takaful and risk management. He presented numerous papers at conferences both within and outside the country.

Prof Mansur was the Professor of Finance and Economics and also the Head of Economics Research at the "Centre of Research Excellence in Renewable Energy" at King Fahd University, Saudi Arabia. He obtained a PhD in Applied Financial Econometrics from Leeds University in 1974 preceded by a Masters in Economics from Manchester University in 1969.
Prior to joining King Fahd University 8 years ago, he taught at the Australian (New South Wales and Edith Cowan) and British (Leeds) Universities for a total of 27 years. During all these years, he taught courses in three disciplines: Finance, Economics, and Applied Econometrics/Statistics at all levels including the MBA and Executive MBA levels.
He has had 82 refereed "applied" papers published with another 4 papers currently under review. He presented 77 papers at the international conferences and has had more than 400 citations of his papers to date.
Among numerous international professional recognitions and awards, Prof Mansur is the holder of "Saudi Aramco Chair Professor of Energy Economics", King Fahd University, Saudi Arabia (2005 - 2008); "Bumiputra Commerce Bank Chair Professor of Finance and Banking", Northern University of Malaysia (2005 - 2007) (June-August); and "Tun Ismail Ali Distinguished Chair Professor of Finance and Investment", National University of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, 2004 (June- August). He was awarded the 'best paper' prize in Asia-Pacific finance conference (Bangkok, 2001), Global finance conference sponsored by Chicago stock exchange (Chicago,2000), PACAP/FMA finance conference sponsored by Kuala Lumpur stock exchange (Kuala Lumpur, 1998); the recipient of the 'best researcher' of the faculty of business award (Edith Cowan University, Western Australia), 1998; and the recipient of six international ANBAR awards for most cited papers in 2001, 2000,1999, 1997.

Dr Abbas is a graduate of the Kansas State University, USA, where he received his Bachelor, Master and PhD Degrees in Economics. In 1968, he started his academic career with University of Alabama, USA. With the exception of a 2-year stint at the AzZahara University in Tehran, Iran, throughout his academic career, Dr Abbas has worked as a Professor of Economics at the University of Alabama, Alabama A&M University, and the Florida Institute of Technology. In 1984, he joined the IMF in Washington DC as an economist. He spent 24 years with the IMF, serving as the organisation's Executive Director and Dean of the Executive Board, retiring in 2008.
Dr Abbas was conferred the "Order of Companion of Volta" for service to Ghana by the President of Ghana in 2005. In 2003, he received the Islamic Development Bank Annual Prize for Research in Islamic Economics, which he shared with Dr Mohsin Khan, another well-known economist at IMF. The President of Pakistan conferred him the "Quaid-e Azam" star for service to Pakistan in 1997.
He has published books, papers and research articles on a wide range of areas including microeconomic theory, mathematical economics and Islamic economics. His latest publications are "Islam and Development: The Institutional Framework" which was co-authored with Dr. Idris Samawi Hamid, Associate Professor of Philosophy at Colorado State University, USA; and "Globalization and Islamic Finance: Convergence, Prospects and Challenges" co-authored with Prof. Hossein Askari of the George Washington University and Dr. Zamir Iqbal of the World Bank."

While pursuing his Ph.D. in Economics at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale, USA, Dr.Mohd-Pisal Zainal was a full-time researcher with Project 12-Ways SIUC at the same university. Project 12-Ways SIUC is part of the Behaviour Analysis and Therapy Program of the Rehabilitation Institute of the university.
His teaching experiences have included serving as an adjunct lecturer, International Institute of Public Policy and Management, University of Malaya, Malaysia and Graduate Tutor at Department of Health Care Professionals, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, USA.

He graduated with honours in Bachelor of Science in Finance from Northern Illinois University in 1983. Prior to joining INCEIF, Dr. was with Maybank since 1974 and held several posts in a number of departments including Branch Operations, Trade Finance, Credit and Credit Control. His last position with Maybank was as a Branch Manager. Whilst pursuing his DBA, he was also a part-time lecturer with USM, teaching corporate finance. Dr. has also been actively involved in several consultancy works and has conducted service training programmes.

Hamdan Hj Idris has more than 30 years of hands-on experience as a banker specializing in the agriculture finance sector. His experience include, working as a Credit Officer, Corporate Planner, PRO, Trainer, Branch Manager, Head of Money Market and Head of Executive Development at the Bank Pertanian Malaysia training center.
Hamdan Hj Idris has successfully planned and implemented programmes on protocol, business etiquette, image enhancement, motivational and public speaking modules at various organizations such as UiTM, Pos Malaysia, Celcom, SIRIM and Bank Simpanan National.
Academically, Hamdan earned his Diploma of Agriculture (UPM), BSc Econs (UPM), and MBA (UIA) and Certified Professional Trainer (MIM). His forte is in Islamic Banking & Finance where he is qualified to perform consultancy work in the area. Mr Ezamshah Ismail is a professional with wide experiences in the insurance and Takaful Industry. Previously, he served as CEO of Hong Leong Tokio Marine Takaful Bhd. and Commerce Life Assurance Bhd.and was instrumental in setting up their takaful operation. Earlier, he had served in various consulting and management roles with the Mercer Consulting Group (US).
In his pursuit of educational excellence, he has several qualifications. He holds the following: -
Masters in Actuarial Science (North Eastern University, Boston); Associate member of the Society of Actuaries (USA); Fellow and Shariah Registered Financial Planner (MFPC); Certificate in Shariah Law and LLM in Business Law from International Islamic University (Malaysia) [IIUM].
He has made several significant contributions to the industry. Whilst being President of the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) he was instrumental in the setting up of the first Life Reinsurance Company (MLRe) and was its first Chairman. He was also the first President of the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) and still serves as a council member. He was a Director of the Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) and the Insurance Mediation Bureau (IMB). He was also a Vice-President of the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA).
Mr Ezamshah is currently a director of The Malaysian Rating Corporation Bhd. (MARC). He is also a Shariah Supervisory Board Member of RGA Global Reinsurance Company Limited (Labuan Branch) for their Retakaful business.

The former deputy Chief Executive Officer of a private Islamic college in Malaysia, Dr. Magda Ismail Abdel Mohsin holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Civilisation (Islamic Economics) from the International Islamic University Malaysia, having completed her Masters in Economics from the same university.
Dr. Magda has published several papers including "The Revival of the Institution of Waqf in Sudan" and "The Institution of Waqf and its role towards Poverty Alleviation with special reference to Cash-Waqf". She has also published a paper on The Practice of Islamic Banking System in Sudan in Journal of Economic Cooperation Among Islamic Countries.
She was in the USA, between 1996 to 2000 under the Educational Visit programme whereby she visited San Jose University, Berkeley University, Stanford University and Santa Clara University.

Dr. Ahcene received his Baccalaureate in Islamic Science from the New Secondary School, and Bachelor in Islamic Science from Islamic University Emir Abd Kadir, Algeria, before coming to Malaysia to do his Masters and PhD in Islamic Law & Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh and Usul Fiqh) at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

With three decades of experience in both the conventional and Islamic banking services industry, Mr Rashid has worked in various capacities including as Head of Consumer Banking Division, Area Manager and Head of Islamic Banking Window. He is currently a Member of the Shariah Committee of the Export Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad, a Member of the Steering Committee for the setting-up of a new Islamic Bank (2010), a Member of the Training Committee and Examination Committee for Certified Credit Professional - Islamic (CCP-i) under Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (2005, 2007, 2008, 2010). He is also a Consultant on Islamic Banking System (as Subject Matter Expert-SME) with an IT company, providing advisory services on the setting up of Islamic bank by developing and providing IT solution for Islamic banking institutions.
He obtained his MBA (2001) and BA majoring in Economics (1977) from the National University of Malaysia (2001). His area of interest is Shariah Audit Compliant on operational/ implementation level of Islamic Banking and also in cooperative banking.

Ms. Norhanim started her career in Maybank after graduating with BBA Finance from Western Michigan University, USA. She obtained an MBA in Oil and Gas Management-Project Financing from University of Dundee, Scotland and then joined Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT). She has served both on full time and part time basis at public and private institutions of higher learning, including International Islamic University Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and Technology Park Malaysia College. Her last appointment before joining INCEIF was as a senior lecturer.

Prior to joining ISRA, Dr Akram was an Assistant Professor at the Kulliyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia. Dr. Akram holds a B.A. Honours degree in Islamic Jurisprudence and Legislation from the University of Jordan and a PhD in Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh) from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He has presented numerous papers related to Islamic Banking and Finance and other Fiqh topics at national and international level. He has conducted training sessions particularly on Islamic Banking and Finance for a wide spectrum of sectors since 1999. He is a registered Shariah Advisor for Islamic Securities with the Securities Commission of Malaysia and has acted as Shariah advisor in the issuance of several sukuks. In addition he is also prolific author of academic works specifically in the areas of Islamic Banking and Finance. He is the recipient of the Zaki Badawi Award 2010 for Excellence in Shariah Advisory and Research.

Prior to joining ISRA, Dr Asyraf Wajdi was an Assistant Professor of Islamic Banking at the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia. Apart from serving ISRA, he also serves as a Chairman of Affin Group Shariah Committee and Shariah consultant and advisor to several financial institutions and advisory firms including London-based Mortgage Company Chain Mender Limited, London-based Halal Industries PLC, US-Based Islamic Financial Institution United Chartered Bank (UCB), Singapore-based IFIS Business Advisory Pte Ltd and AFTAAS Shariah Advisory Sdn. Bhd.
He is also a member of Board of Studies, Faculty of Business Administration, University Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia. He holds Master of Science degree in Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance and PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He has published in numerous international and local refereed academic journals. One of his articles, "Banking for the Poor: The Role of Islamic Banking in Microfinance Initiatives", was awarded as the 2009 Outstanding Paper Award by the well-known International Referred Journal Article Publisher Emerald Literati Network. Apart from that, he has presented papers at both local and international conferences including London, Bahrain, Berlin, Dubai, Tehran, Jakarta, Singapore and Brunei. He also conducts training in Islamic banking and finance related areas to officers of Central Bank of Malaysia, banking practitioners, government officials and public.

Dr. Said received a Bachelor's degree in Islamic Science ( Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh) from the University of Algiers, Algeria; a Masters in Quran and Sunnah and a PhD in Islamic Law & Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh and Usul Fiqh) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), He also has a diploma in Human Sciences from the same university.
Prior to joining ISRA, he worked as a lecturer at the Islamic Science University of Malaysia(USIM) from 2003 to 2004, and assistant professor and associate professor at the Department of Islamic Law (Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws) of IIUM from 2004 to 2009.
Dr Said has published two books, three chapters in books and several articles in refereed journals. He has also presented several papers in international conferences including the International Fiqh Academy of the OIC. He supervised ten PhD candidates and was appointed as external examiner for three master and PhD theses. He also developed the curricula for four courses at IIUM and conducted many training sessions in Islamic banking and finance.

Prior to joining ISRA, Dr Marjan she was a tutor at the Faculty of Law and Syari'ah, Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM). She holds a Bachelor of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage(Hons), Master and PhD of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage (Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh) from International Islamic University Malaysia. Her interests and areas of specialisation are in intellectual reasoning (ijtihad), fiqh muamalat, and Islamic banking and finance.

Upon the completion of her Masters in Law from University Malaya, Dr. Sherin Kunhibava pursued the career path of an academician, and taught at University Tunku Abdul Rahman for a period of three years. Thereafter she was awarded a scholarship to pursue her PhD in Islamic banking and finance from Monash University in 2006. At Monash University, Dr. Sherin taught and conducted her research for her PhD. She completed her PhD in 2009 and recently attended her graduation in early 2010. For the past one and a half years she has been working as a researcher at ISRA. Her area of specialisation is Islamic derivatives, and Corporate and Business law. Dr. Sherin Kunhibava has published in international refereed journals and contributed chapters to books in Islamic finance. She has also presented at a number of International conferences.

Prof. Dr. Noureddine Krichene

Dr Noureddine was an Economist with the International Monetary Fund Economist from 1986 to 2009. From 2005 to 2007, he was an Advisor at the Islamic Development Bank in Saudi Arabia. He received his PhD in Economics from University of California, Los Angeles in 1980.
His areas of expertise are in macroeconomic policies, finance, and energy and water economics. He has published 25 working and research papers in Islamic economics and finance, exchange rate theory, monetary theory, finance, and energy and water economics. The topics covered included "Modelling stochastic volatility with application to stock returns", "Deriving market expectations for the Euro-dollar exchange rate from option prices" and "The purchasing power parity in five East African countries".
He has also co-authored a number of books including "The Stability of Islamic Finance", 2010. Some of his recent publications included "Recent Dynamics of Oil Prices, Energy Economics", 2008; "Monetary Policy and the Oil Shock",2007; "Recent Inflationary Trends in Commodities Markets", 2007; "An Oil Demand and Supply Model Incorporating Monetary Policy," Energy, 2010; "Monetary policy and world commodity markets: 2000-2007," PSL Quarterly Review, 2010; "The Impact of Monetary Policy on Oil Process Parameters and Market Expectations," Global Finance Journal, July, 2010. He also writes regularly for the Asian Times Online, an online daily, which focuses on economics, events and trends in the business and financial world.
